Bhubaneswar: In accordance with the Supreme Court’s directive, the Odisha police has issued a circular directing all the SPs and DCPs to ensure strict adherence to the restrictions imposed on bursting firecrackers during Diwali.
At a press conference here on Friday, DGP RP Sharma said the restrictions will be strictly imposed at sensitive places and bursting of firecrackers will be allowed at other places between 8 pm and 10 pm.
On Tuesday, the apex court had spelled out the rules and regulations for bursting crackers during Diwali. It had allowed use of only green firecrackers with reduced emission and decibel levels.
Ruling out a blanket ban on firecrackers, a bench of Justices AK Sikri and Ashok Bhushan had said that the area police chief would be liable for contempt of court for failure to comply. Firecrackers can be burst between 8 pm and 10 pm, it had added.
