Kendrapara: The Commissionerate Police which is investigating the ‘fake doctor’ Ramesh Swain case, the man who conned 18 women into marriage and then swindled their money, on Tuesday raided a house in Ishwarpur area of the district and picked up his sister for interrogation.
A special squad has brought Swain’s sister Rashmita to Bhubaneswar for interrogation in connection with his links to fraudulent activities. Sources said she has been kept at an disclosed location and will be questioned regarding her links with the fraud committed by her brother.
In another development, a fresh case has been lodged against the ‘Don Juan’. As per the complaint, Swain has been accused of defrauding a businesswoman of Rs 4 lakh in Andhra Pradesh.
Swain was arrested on February 14 from a rented house in Khandagiri area basing on a complaint filed by a Delhi-based woman schoolteacher in July, 2021. A case has been registered against him at the Mahila police station.
A house at Sai Paradise at Patrapada, which he had rented in November last year, was raided. The house owner told that Swain had identified himself as deputy director of a department of a Health Ministry and paid him two months advance of Rs 20,000.
“He had rented the house for his sister and her in-laws. The security guard had informed that an elderly man and woman once shifted furniture to the house. But none has stayed here since then,” he said.
The doctor, who duped highly educated women across India, was in fact a Class 10 fail. He travelled across the country seeking such matches and spent most of his time with one of his wives at Guwahati, Assam, police said.
A father of five children, Swain had married his first wife in 1982 and second in 2002. Between 2002 and 2020, he befriended other women through matrimonial websites and married them to carry out his illegal activities. Police suspect the involvement of his family members.
