Cuttack: A police team from Odisha is likely to proceed to Kolkata probe harassment allegation made by a woman against popular playback singer Sourin Bhatt. The woman has accused him of exploiting her, both physically and mentally.

According to sources, the four-member team is likely to leave tomorrow to expedite investigation in the case. The team comprises members from the special squad and Mahila Police.

The Commissionerate Police decided to send the team to Kolkata as the singer failed to depose before the Mahila Police in Cuttack, sources said.

The team comprising Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Mahila Police Station in Cuttack and members of a special squad will visit Kolkata to investigate the charges.

Bhatt has landed in a soup after the woman from Odisha accused him of exploiting her, both physically and mentally, and reneging on the promise to marry her.

The complainant, who reportedly works in a private bank, had lodged a complaint with the Jagatpur police, which was then referred to Mahila Police station here. A case has been registered under Sections 376 (sexual assault), 493 (cohabitation caused by a man deceitfully inducing a belief of lawful marriage), 341 (wrongfully restrains), 294 (obscene acts and songs), 417 (cheating) and 506 (threat to cause death or grievous hurt). Police have also recorded the statement of the woman, sources said.

The sources further said that the woman had come in contact with the playback singer about three years ago and their families were aware of the relationship. Bhatt also allegedly took Rs 10 lakh from her. He also promised to give her a break as a singer.

The complainant, however, refused to divulge any details to the media.

Bhatt, who reportedly resides in Mumbai, was recently in news for his latest single titled ‘Prema Dhun’.
