Balangir: Former MLA Jagneswar Babu, who left Congress recently, joined Bharatiya Janata Party in Odisha’s Balangir.
Babu along with his hundreds of supporters were welcomed to the BJP by Balangir MP Sangita Kumari Singhdeo in the party office in the town.
Babu was elected as MLA on Janata Dal ticket in 1990. Later, he joined Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and held different party posts. But he left the BJD a few years after and joined the Congress. The former MLA resigned from the Congress on April 3.
After joining the BJP, Babu said he would work with the party’s support to revive the sugar mill at Deogaon in future. It would not only benefit the local farmers but also generate employment for the youths, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Singhdeo expressed optimism that Babu would further strengthen the BJP with is vast experience as a prominent political leader of the district.
