Bhubaneswar: Workers engaged in the power sector in Odisha continued their protest in Bhubaneswar for the sixth day on Monday to press for their demands, including hike in minimum wages and equal pay for equal work.

The protesters have been staging dharna at Lower PMG in the state capital under the banner of ‘Nikhila Odisha Vidyut Mazdoor Mahasangha’ in support of their demands.
A large number of employees working in the electricity sector of 20 divisions in nine districts have gathered in the capital city as part of the agitation.

The demonstrators said that they had submitted a seven-point charter of demands to the state government and the power distribution company on January 31. The protesters have been demanding hike in minimum wages, same pay for same work and special minimum wages for workers engaged on contract.

Lamenting that their demands are yet to be fulfilled, the protesters threatened to intensify their stir and resort to cease work agitation across the state from Tuesday.
