Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee launched a
24-hour helpline service for the women on Thursday at ‘Swabhiman
Sankalp Samavesh’ held at the Congress Bhawan.

The 24-hour helpline number is 7008999858. “The women, who have been

tortured can call the helpline at any time for help. The Congress
members will help them immediately,” informed Pradesh Mahila Congress
president Sumitra Jena.

She also said, “We have organised a campaign to raise our voice
against the increasing atrocities on women in the state. The victims
are not getting justice at the right time. Keeping this in mind, we
have launched this helpline to facilitate them.”

A team in this regard will be formed within eight to 10 days, he added.

All India Mahila Congress general secretary and Odisha in-charge,
Sandhya Sawalakhe said, “If the women are determined, then nothing is
impossible. The atrocities on women have not declined in the last 18
years of the ruling government. If the women members of Congress party

can unite 10 families to support the party, then our party can win
here.”

OPCC chief Niranjan Patnaik said, “Mahila Congress has not been active
in Odisha since the past several years. It is time to add more women
in the party to strengthen the Mahila Congress.”

More than 2,000 Congress Mahila leaders were present at the Samavesh.
