Puri: Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s pilgrim town of Puri will remain out of bounds for devotees for four hours on
Wednesday for Banakalagi ritual of the sibling deities.
“The Banakalagi Niti of deities at Puri Srimandir will be held on Krushna Dashami Mala Tithi in the month of Kartik, on November 8, 2023, Wednesday. Hence, the darshan will be restricted for devotees from 5 pm to 9 pm after the end of the second Bhogamandap Bhoga ritual,” the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) informed on Tuesday.
The secret ritual was last held on October 5.
During the Banakalagi Niti, servitors do ‘Srimukha Sringara’ of deities and apply fresh coat of colours prepared from hingula, haritala, kasturi, keshar and the glue of kaintha on the idols to restore their original look.
