Cuttack: After a long wait, the second campus of the premier Ravenshaw university near CDA area in Odisha’s Cuttack is all set to start functioning from next month.
It may be noted here that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had laid the foundation of the second campus way back in June 2015. The campus was targeted to come up in two years.
In the first phase, the Mahanadi campus at Brajabiharipur will be made functional from July 3 with two self financing courses (SFCs) in Information Technology Management (ITM) and Information Science and Telecommunication (IST), sources said.
Other SFCs like Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) will be subsequently shifted to the second campus, according to university vice chancellor Prof S K Nayak.
Since the first year of ITM and IST courses will commence in November, teaching will be imparted to around 400 students of second and third year of these subjects now.
According to the UGC guidelines, the strength of SFC courses should not exceed 20 per cent of the total strength of regular courses. The number of seats in SFCs has, therefore, been reduced in the university. While the number of seats in ITM couse is now 128, the number in IST stands at 64.
A proposal will be sent to the government for increasing the number of seats in introducing new courses in the 2024-25 academic session, he said.
While separate blocks are being constructed for every course in the Mahanadi campus, steps have been taken for deployment of security personnel and ensuring round-the-clock water supply. This apart, BSNL has been contacted to provide free wi-fi facility to the new campus.
Two women’s hostels have been constructed in the second campus to accommodate around 256 students, he said. The main campus had no hostel facility for SFS students.
The transport department has been requested to extend Mo Bus service to the campus for the convenience of students.
