Odisha Receives 25% Less Than Normal Rainfall Till Date

Bhubaneswar: Most parts of Odisha received 25% less than normal rainfall since the onset of monsoon till date, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD, in a release on Friday said, as many as 17 districts of the state received deficit while only 10 districts registered normal rainfall from June 1 to July 7. The state has received 206 mm rainfall against normal rainfall of 276.6 mm during the period, registering a deficit of 25%, it added.

Kalahandi district in western Odisha received highest shortfall of 64% as the region has so far received 117.5 mm rainfall while the normal figure stands at 325.1 mm during the period.

The districts that witnessed normal or more rainfall included Angul, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Malkangiri, Koraput, Sundargarh, Nuapada and Sambalpur.

Deogarh recorded the highest rainfall of 410 mm in the state. As the normal rainfall in the district is 268.3 mm, this year it exceeded by 53% so far.

Another western district, Jharsuguda, which was one of the hottest places during the summer this year, received 21% more than the normal rainfall.
