Sambalpur: The new building of Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) & Sambalpur Development Authority resembles the world’s longest dam, Hirakud.
Work on the four-storey building, which is a replica of Hirakud Dam, had started in November 2017. It is being built on five acres of land at Durgapali, on the outskirts of Sambalpur at an estimated cost of Rs 14.89 crore by a Kolkata-based architectural firm.
The municipal corporation office is operating from a building constructed in 1927. Once complete, both municipal corporation and development authority offices will function from this one building along the Mahanadi riverside.
“This was planned long ago by the government. The municipality office built in the British era is failing to accommodate all the staff. So this is definitely a welcoming step,” said a local.
