Berhampur: Bithal Bhardwaj, a Class XI student from Berhampur, has done Odisha proud by getting his name registered in the India Book of Records (IBR) for reciting 13 verses of Bhagavad Gita in one minute.

Bithal, who is a student of DAV Public School, was inspired by his late father to memorise shlokas (verses) from the Gita as a child. He has been reciting verses from the holy text every day ever since.

According to reports, one of Bithal’s teachers found out about the boy’s talent and advised him to apply for IBR. Following this, Bithal recorded his performance and sent the video to the record book, which selected it.

Bithal, who lives with his mother and maternal grandfather at Gajapati Nagar here after the demise of his father, credits his success to his teachers and parents.

He also said that his grandfather helps him to understand the meaning of many verses from the Gita.

Bithal further said he now harbours hope of registering his name in the Guinness Book of World Records.
