Sundargarh: A scooter rider has been slapped a penalty of Rs 1,000 for not wearing seat belt in Odisha’s Sundargarh disrict.
According to sources, Abhisekh Kar of Rajgangpur received a message from MVI office stating that a challan had been issued for the vehicle bearing his scooter registration number for violation of driving norms on February 10. On verifying the details from the local RTO office, he came to know that the challan was issued for not wearing seat belts.
Kar told the media that he had approached the MVI office in this regard and sought clarification, but he was yet to get any reply. He has also written to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on its official website.
“The RTO officials said it may be a human error. I can understand it. But the authorities should ensure that such mistakes do not happen as it creates tension for innocent and law abiding people,” he said.
Kar also expressed his displeasure over delay in response from the authorities. Though he had filed a complaint and sought clarification on February 17, he is yet to get any reply. On the other hand, he has been asked to deposit the penalty amount within 7 days of receiving the message, he added.
