Rourkela: Sundargarh underlined their stature in Odisha hockey by winning the Junior Women’s and Sub-Junior Men’s titles in the third edition of Hockey Association of Odisha state championship.
Sundargarh girls overpowered Dhenkanal 11-0 in the final at Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium here on Friday. Sambalpur defeated Jajpur to finish third.
Ankita Minz (Sundargarh) received Player of the Tournament award, while Krutiprava Dash (Jajpur) was Best Forward, Soniya Dungdung (Sambalpur) Best Midfielder, Ajita Ekka (Sundargarh) Best Defender and Ashrita Kerketta (Dhenkanal) Best Goalkeeper.
In the Sub-Junior Men’s final, Sundargarh overcame Rourkela Steel Plant 4-2 to secure the title. Sports Hostel Rourkela were third after beating Gangpur Hockey Association 5-2.
Selestin Ekka (Sports Hostel Rourkela) was named Player of the Tournament.
Sujul Khartakhar (Rourkela Steel Plant) was awarded Best Forward, Ashish Lakra (Sports Hostel Rourkela) Best Midfielder, Sandeep Xaxa (Sports Hostel Sundargarh) Best Defender and Sumit Toppo (Gangpur Sports Association) Best Goalkeeper.
