Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch has confiscated properties worth more than Rs 2 crore of a ganja smuggler of Ganjam district.
The STF had arrested the drug smuggler, Chitrasen Parida of Kodala town in Ganjam district, in Balasore on March 10 and forwarded him to court. Following the arrest, the STF conducted investigation into his properties.
During financial investigation, the STF found properties worth more than Rs 2 crore in possession of Chitrasen. Ganja weighing around 10 quintals and other incriminating materials were seized.
The drug smuggler’s properties included two buildings worth around Rs 1.85 crore, a mini bus, a car, landed properties and bank deposits. The valuation of total properties is in progress. It is also suspected that he might have acquired properties out of drug business in Gujarat. Odisha Police is in touch with its Gujarat counterpart in this regard.
The STF has taken up the matter with Competent Authority, Kolkota for forfeiture of the properties of the ganja smuggler.
Several drug smuggling cases are pending against Chitrasen in Malkangiri district of Odisha and Surat of Gujarat.
