Odisha Teacher Drowns In Mahanadi Trying To Save Student

Nayagarh: In a tragic incident, a teacher drowned in the Mahanadi River while trying to save a student at Kantilo in the Khandapada block of Odisha’s Nayagarh district, on Wednesday.

The deceased, identified as Saroj Dash (32), was engaged as a teacher at a private educational institution in the Mahakalapada area of Kendrapara district.

As per reports, teachers and students of the institution had gone to Kantilo for a picnic. Tragedy struck when some students were bathing in the river and one of them ventured into deep water.

Saroj also went into the river to save the drowning student. However, he himself drowned while doing so.

Local residents rescued the teacher and rushed him to the Khandapada Community Health Centre, where he was declared ‘brought dead’.
