Bhubaneswar: Organic coffee will now be cultivated on 5,000 hectares in Koraput district in the next five years.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik made this announcement on Saturday on the sidelines of distribution of Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) smart health cards.
“Koraput Coffee has brought new opportunities for tribals, especially women, in the district,” said Naveen. The decision to expand coffee cultivation will pave the way for economic development of Koraput,” he added.
Naveen also inaugurated several developmental projects worth Rs 1000 crore during the virtual meet.
A dedicated e-commerce platform was launched on October 1 to enhance the income of coffee farmers in the state on the occasion of International Coffee Day.
During the distribution of smart health cards Naveen said more than 12 lakh people of the district will benefit from BSKY card.
Naveen inaugurated and laid foundation stone of various projects worth Rs 866 crore. He also paid floral tributes to the statue of former minister and Koraput MLA Harischandra Baxipatra.
