Cuttack: The toll in the horrific triple train crash in Odisha’s Bahanaga Bazar station rose to 289 after an injured passenger died while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Tuesday, family source informed.
The deceased has been identified as Vijay Pasvan, a native of Bihar.
He along with his four relatives had boarded Chennai-bound Coromandel Express from Shalimar for Palghar on the fateful evening when it collided with Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express following the derailment after ramming a stationary goods train on separate tracks, killing 211 passengers at the spot.
They were informed about his death around 10 am.
However, no official confirmation on the increase in the death toll has been made so far. The state government and Railways had last put the number of deceased in the train accident at 288.
At present, 81 injured passengers are undergoing treatment at SCB and among them, 11 are in the ICU, the sources added.
