Sambalpur: A second-year student of Sambalpur Homeopathic Medical College here has brought allegations of ragging, while three senior students have accused a teacher and the institution of harassment and lodged a counter FIR with police.
On June 28, a second-year BHMS student submitted a written complaint to the principal in-charge and the anti-ragging cell, alleging ragging by four final-year students. She further claimed that senior students threatened to kill her by drowning her in a bucket of water. “We found that the senior students had ordered the complainant to water plants in the garden. An altercation ensued, during which they allegedly threatened to kill her. When the four students were confronted, only one among them accepted to have threatened the second-year student,” in-charge principal of the college, Diptikanta Singh, told the media
An FIR in this regard has been lodged with Sason police.
Singh further stated that the three students, who denied the allegation, filed a counter-complaint against one of the teachers, alleging harassment. “We have also informed Sambalpur SP about the matter. Police have assured to take necessary action,” she added.
A committee, comprising an ASP ranked officer, two DSPs and inspector, has been formed to investigate the matter, a police officer said, while confirming having received two FIRs.
