OAS Officer, Arrested Over Bribery Charges, Owns Five Buildings & 7 Valuable Plots

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested Banamali Satpathy, Executive Officer of Belaguntha NAC in Ganjam district, after he was allegedly caught taking Rs 25,000 bribe from a staffer.

Satpathy, an officer of the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS), had demanded bribe from the staffer for relieving him on his transfer, releasing his pending arrear salary and Last Pay Certificate (LPC).

As a result, the complainant was unable to draw salary at his new place of posting. Left with no other option, he reported the matter to Vigilance authorities. Based on this, a team of Odisha Vigilance nabbed Satpathy at Balipadar Bus Stop, while taking Rs 25,000 as bribe from the complainant.

The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of Satpathy and seized.

Five buildings at Kabisurya Nagar, seven valuable plots, including 1 in Puri town and 6 in Ganjam district, were found in the names of Satpathy and his family members during subsequent raids at three locations. These apart, Rs 1,60,400 in cash was also recovered from his residential house at Kabisurya Nagar.
