Sambalpur: The police on Sunday claimed that the death of VSSUT graduate Chinmayee Priyadarshini Sahoo in Odisha’s Sambalpur district was caused by drowning.
Chinmayee had gone missing after attending the convocation of the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) at Burla on Tuesday night and her body was found floating in the power channel of Hirakud Dam in Sambalpur the following morning. The police had sent the body for the post-mortem.
Sambalpur SP B Gangadhar on Sunday told the media that the post-mortem report stated that Chinmayee died in the dam due to drowning. The lie detection test reports of her two friends is likely to be received on Monday, he added,
Following a complaint filed by Chinmayee’s parents alleging that her two male friends, Pritiman Dey and Manas Tudu were involved in the death of their daughter, the police had sent them to Bhubaneswar for the lie detection test at the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL).
Sources said the diatom and viscera reports will be received after 3-4 days while laptop, hard disc, pen drive and a diary recovered from Chinmayee’s hostel room have been sent to laboratory for test. On Saturday, police had interrogated seven students of the VSSUT in the connection with the case.
Meanwhile, Chinmayee’s family expressed unhappiness as the two accused named in their complaint have not been arrested. “A case has been registered on the basis of our complaint. But we do not understand why the two persons who we suspect to have killed our daughter have not been arrested yet,” they told the media.
