Puri: The body of a youth with visible injuries lying close to Baliapanda lighthouse in Odisha’s Puri caused panic among locals. While his identity is yet to be ascertained, an ATM card recovered from the belongings indicated that the deceased was not from Puri district.
After receiving information, Baliapanda police arrived on the scene and launched an inquiry.
Puri Additional SP Sushil Mishra said, “Preliminary investigation revealed it is a case of murder. Accordingly a case has been registered; it looks that the youth was beaten to death. We have determined that the deceased was not from Puri based on the verification of an ATM card.”
The youth is believed to have been killed somewhere and his body was dumped at the beach area because there was no evidence of a struggle or resistance on sand, police sources said.
Family members of the deceased have been informed and the body was sent for autopsy. “Investigation is underway to ascertain motive behind the murder and efforts are on to trace the person/s involved in the crime,” Mishra added.
