Bhubaneswar: Date palm jaggery and sugar have turned a major attraction at the Odisha Pavilion in ongoing India International Trade Fair 2023 (IITF) in New Delhi.
In order to promote date palm jaggery, which has numerous health benefits, the Micro, Small & Medium Enterprise department of Odisha government has opened stalls for its exhibition and sale in IITF 2023.
The visitors from India and abroad have highly appreciated the jaggery in Odisha Pavilion, making it one of the hot items in the trade fair.
The jaggery is produced through 23 primary date palm cooperatives under Odisha Rajya Talgur Samabaya Sangh Ltd. Apart from Jaggery, sugar granules are also made from the date palm by the cooperatives.
Being an organic produce, it has no artificial flavour. Date palm jaggery has various vitamins, minerals and immunity boosting powers. This also helps keep blood sugar levels in check.
Moreover, various decorative handicraft items are made from date palm leaves. The Talgur Samabaya Sangh arranges for market linkage to ensure sale of such products. This facilitates more than 5,000 farmers and artisans of the state in earning a decent income.
