Gopalpur: Gopalpur Port received its first-ever Capesize vessel carrying 105,000 tonnes of limestone on October 12, a Gopalpur Ports Limited release said on Monday.
JSPL, one of Gopalpur Port’s key customers, imported 105,000 tonnes of steel grade limestone from the middle-east in a ship owned by Essar Shipping.
Capsize vessels are large-sized bulk carriers and tankers typically above 150,000 deadweight tonnage.
With this, Gopalpur Port has joined the list of select ports in India that can handle Capesize vessels.
The Port authorities are undertaking an expansion programme, which including dredging of the channel to allowing docking of large ships.
“We are very proud to have successfully handled a vessel carting 105,000 tonnes on October 12. In a short time, Shapoorji Pallonji Group has made significant progress in making Gopalpur Port a world-class port,” Managing Director of Shapoorji Pallonji Port Maintenance Pvt Ltd Amit Saboo said.
