Odisha’s Jharsuguda Administration Issues Advisory After Death Of 6 Persons For Suspected Sunstroke

Jharsuguda: In view of prevailing heatwave and death of six persons due to suspected sunstroke in Jharsuguda district, the local administration issued an advisory for the people on Friday.

A high-level meeting of the administration including deputy collector, Brajrajgar SDPO and Jharsuguda RTO along with truck owners was held in the office of Brajrajnagar Municipality on the day. Following a detailed discussion, a number of steps to be taken by the people was decided at the meeting.

The administration has advised the owners of factories and industries not to send goods vehicles out of the premises between 11 am and 3 pm. The truck owners were also told to ensure the restricted time for their drivers and make necessary arrangements to prevent heatstroke.

It also requested the people to stay indoors between 10 am and 4 pm and drink adequate water. In case of any emergency to step out of the house, one should take precautionary measures. They should carry umbrella, water bottle and cover the head with cotton cloth.

Earlier in the day, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) had stated that one death each has been confirmed due to heatstroke in Balasore, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur and Balangir districts. Besides, about 12 suspected heatstroke deaths in Sundargarh and another six in Jharsuguda had been reported, he said.

Stating that the heatwave conditions are likely to continue in the state for next five days, the SRC had also issued an advisory for the people to prevent sunstroke.

It may be noted that Jharsuguda had recorded highest temperature of 47 degree Celsius in the state. It was the sixth highest temperature for third time in the history of the district. The mercury had touched 44.6 degree Celsius by 2.30 pm on Friday, according to IMD bulletin.
