Bhubaneswar: A 4-member team led by Jagatsinghpur food inspector visited Maa Sarala Temple here on Friday following a complaint on alleged use of adulterated ghee for rituals and preparation of prasad at the Shakti shrine.
Sources said that the chief priest of the temple had alleged that the ghee procured by the temple administration from the OMFED is of poor and sub-standard quality. Servitors at the storeroom and devotees had also complained about unpleasant odour of the ghee.
Accordingly, the team collected samples of ghee and sent those for quality check. It also conducted searches at the storeroom of the shrine.
Amid the Tirupati laddoo row, the allegation of use of adulterated ghee at the temple has raised concern among devotees, who throng the temple in huge numbers during the Navratri. The ‘Manda Bhoga’ is being sold at Rs 100 during the festive season, the sources added.
