Bhubaneswar: Odisha has made major progress in curbing maternal and infant mortality.
The 42 point reduction in maternal mortality ratio that came down from 222 in 2011-13 to 180 in 2014-16 brought the state’s MMR below the national decline of 37 points, according to Sample Registration Survey ( SRS).
Authorities in the state government attributed the fall in the MMR to health department initiatives and committed ground level health workers.
The state already boasts of the highest point reduction in infant mortality ratio that has fallen by 56 points since 2000.
