Bhubaneswar: Ace Odisha shooter Shriyanka Sadangi boosted her National rankings by securing first position in the women’s 50m rifle 3 position (3P) at the National Selection Trial No. 6 (Group A), conducted by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) at New Delhi’s Karni Singh Shooting Range.

Putting up a dominant performance, Shriyanka won the final by shooting a total of 463.8. Ayushi Podder (Railways) and Vidarsa K Vinod (Kerala) finished second and third with scores of 456.4 and 445.4, respectively.

In the qualifying stage as well, Shriyanka secured top spot with a score of 589, which included 197 each in kneeling and prone, and 195 in standing. Ashi Chouksey (Madhya Pradesh) and Manini Kaushik (Rajasthan) claimed second and third positions, respectively, in the qualifying round.

A native of Sambalpur, Shriyanka secured third place in women’s 50m Rifle 3 Position at the National Selection Trials No. 5, held at the same venue a day earlier. Vidarsa K Vinod (Kerala) and Manini Kaushik (Rajasthan) finished first and second, respectively, on Friday.

The series of National Selection Trials serves as a criteria for the composition of Indian squads for international competitions. These trials are a regular feature of the NRAI calendar, besides the National championships. Ranking points earned from the Selection Trials enable shooters to secure berths in the National squads.

The impressive performances at the two National Selection Trials is sure to boost the confidence of KIIT University PhD student Shriyanka for the upcoming National Shooting Championships, likely to be held in November or December.
