Baripada: The Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district was reopened for tourists on Tuesday after being closed for six days because of cyclone Dana.

The tiger reserve was initially shut from October 23 to 25 and again for three more days from October 26 to 28 as heavy rain continued to lash the area under the influence of the cyclone.

All previous bookings for cottage stays were cancelled, and tourists were not allowed to enter the reserve during the period. STR Director’s Office stated the reserve would reopen after assessing post-storm conditions.

Notably, Similipal sanctuary had reopened ahead of Durga Puja festival after remaining closed during the monsoon season. During Durga Puja festival, the sanctuary attracted tourists from across Odisha and outside to enjoy their holidays.

Home to Bengal tigers, elephants, leopards, and over 200 bird species, Similipal is considered an ideal destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers.
