Bhubaneswar: One person has been arrested and more than 40 others detained by police for their alleged involvement in the bomb blast that took place at Raghunath Nagar in Dumuduma here on Monday night.
The arrested has been identified as Agni Sarangi.
“Agni, who is involved in a number of criminal cases, has been arrested in connection with the incident. He had fuelled tension between the villagers over a past enmity,” a police officer informed.
The accused persons were picked up by Khandagiri police from their houses late last night.
According to available information, two motorcycle-borne miscreants had hurled bombs at two to three shops following a group clash. Two motorcycles and a hotel were damaged in the incident.
When a police team went to the spot after being informed about the incident, a group of angry locals pelted the cops with stones and ransacked a PCR van.
Four police officers, including Khandagiri police station inspector-in-charge (IIC) Himanshu Swain, were injured in the attack by locals.
The IIC was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here for treatment.
