Bhubaneswar: Police on Thursday arrested an accused in the gang-rape of a woman in a car in Khurda town. Police have also seized the car used in the crime.
The arrest came a day after the victim was found lying in a critical condition on NH-16 near PN College.
The Bhubaneswar DCP tweeted that a case has been registered and the point of the jurisdiction has been shifted from Khurda to Khandagiri police station in Bhubaneswar. Senior police officers were monitoring the investigation, the tweet said.
The victim, who is undergoing treatment at the Khurda district headquarters hospital, has lodged a police complaint, stating that the car driver had given her a lift to Bhubaneswar. He and another person in the car then took turns in raping her. They later threw out of the car.
Khurda SP Ajay Kumar Swain met the victim at the hospital and took her statement.
