Rourkela: One person was injured in firing and a van was set on fire in separate incidents in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Sunday.
As per reports, in one incident, Subas Nayak of Kiringisera under Kutra block of the district was driving a pick-up van on Biju Expressway when four miscreants came in a car and intercepted him.
As Subash stopped his vehicle near Itama under Badagaon police station, they fired at him. Subash was hit on his lower jaw and started bleeding. Following it, the miscreants fled in their car.
Later, the locals admitted him in a hospital at Rourkela. His condition was stated to be critical. On being informed, Badagaon police went to the spot and started investigation.
In the second incident, L Rohidas from Gulatha of Jogimal under Lephripada police limits along with two others was carrying two bullocks in a pick-up van when 7 persons, who claimed themselves to be Bajrang Dal activists, stopped him near Kanika under Hemagira police limits.
The accused persons threatened Rohidas with a gun and fired in the air. They alighted Rohidas and two others and the bullocks. Then they sent the van on fire.
Later, police along with Fire Brigade went to the spot and extinguished the burning van. They have also registered a case and launched searching for the accused who are absconding.
It may be noted that one Basudev Sa was injured after his younger brother fired him at Patakijoga under Kinjirikela police station in the district on Saturday. The injured Basudev is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
