Malkangiri: One Maoist was reportedly killed during a heavy exchange of fire with security personnel in Malkangiri district on Tuesday morning.
Sources said that the DVF and the SOG personnel began a joint combing operation this morning following intelligence input on the presence of the Maoists inside Tulasi hill forest under Mathili police limits near the border of Chhattisgarh.
During the operation, the Maoists suddenly opened fire on the security personnel who immediately retaliated.
During the hour-long exchange of fire, a Maoist cadre was killed. A security man was also injured in the incident.
A gun has been recovered from the spot.
While the exchange of fire still continues, arrangements have been made to send a helicopter to shift the injured security personnel.
The district police are yet to confirm the incident.
