‘Oppenheimer’ Sweeps The 96th Academy Awards; Check Full List Of Winners
Hollywood: ‘Oppenheimer’, blockbuster biopic, won seven Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director (Christopher Nolan) and Best Actor (Cillian Murphy), at the recently-held 96th Academy Awards.
Emma Stone won the Best Actress award for her portrayal of Bella Baxter in Yorgos Lanthimos’ film, ‘Poor Things’. This was Stone’s second Oscar. She had earlier won the award for her act in La La Land.
Robert Downey Jr. won the Best Supporting Actor for his performance in ‘Oppenheimer’, which had earned 13 nominations. The biographical thriller overpowered all competition — including its release-date companion, ‘Barbie’. It also won the Oscar for Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Original Score.
While the summer blockbuster ‘Barbie’ didn’t win every award it was nominated for, its cast stole the show at the 2024 Oscars. Margot Robbie, America Ferrera, and company walked the red carpet in stunning outfits. Then, Ryan Gosling reprised his role as Ken, singing the film’s standout musical number ‘I’m Just Ken’ to rapturous applause.
‘To Kill a Tiger’, set in a village in Jharkhand, lost to ’20 Days in Mariupol’ in the best documentary feature category at the 96th edition of the awards. It is executive produced by actors Dev Patel, Mindy Kaling, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Canadian poet Rupi Kaur, and surgeon-bestselling author Atul Gawande and premiered on Netflix hours before Oscars day.
Last year, India struck gold at the Academy Awards with “Naatu Naatu”, the foot-tapping mass anthem from SS Rajamouli’s period-action drama RRR, winning in the Best Original Song category and ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ in Documentary Short Film Category.
