Cuttack: The Orissa High Court, which had ordered a CBI probe into erroneous marksheet allegation by a candidate of JEE (Main) 2022 Exam, has closed the case after the investigating agency submitted a status report.

The HC had on August 17, 2023, ordered a CBI probe into the claim made in a petition filed by one Anshuman Kanungo of Marshaghai area in Kendrapada.

The Court had directed the central probe agency to ascertain the genuineness of claims made by a candidate regarding marks scored by him in contrast to National Testing Agency (NTA) records within four months and submit a report.

On perusal of the status report of inquiry submitted by the CBI in a sealed cover, the same was intimated to the counsel appearing for the petitioner, who does not want to pursue the matter, the bench of acting Chief Justice B R Sarangi and Justice M S Raman observed.

The probe report submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apparently found little substance in the claim made by the petitioner, sources said.

“Since the petitioner is a young boy, he should concentrate in his study instead of pursuing the matter,” the HC bench said in its order of November 23

Accordingly, the matter stands closed for all times to come. The inquiry report so submitted by the CBI be kept on record, it held.

The petitioner had claimed that he had scored 98.88 but later found some discrepancies in the marksheet later and sent a mail to the authorities concerned for correction. However, the score was subsequently changed to 33 and serial number in the common rank list from 6,28,193 to 11,193. He was also denied admission in any engineering college, including NIT-Rourkela, on the plea that the marksheet submitted by him was fake.
