Koraput: Police seized ganja weighing over one tonne and arrested three persons from Jeypore Sadar area in Odisha’s Koraput district on Sunday night.
According to sources, a police team led by Jeypore Sadar police station IIC Aditya Mahankad intercepted a truck near Jabakanadi square while it was heading towards Jeypore Sadar area from Jalaput in the district and seized the contraband.
While police managed to nab one smuggler, two others managed to flee the spot. They were later arrested from Jalaput by a police team lead by Jeypore SDPO Arup Abhishek Behera. The truck in which the ganja, whose market price is estimated to be around Rs 1 crore, has also been seized.
Among the three arrested, two are ganja suppliers while the other is a bus owner. Besides the truck, a car, a motorcycle, four mobile phones, and Rs 1.65 lakh in cash have been seized from their possession.
“There are some more people involved in ganja smuggling. We will arrest them soon,” informed Behera.
