Bhubaneswar: The capital city reported 10 cyber frauds daily on an average in January, according to the Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD).
As per the data released by the Cyber Crime Help Desk of the Bhubaneswar UPD, it had received as many as 331 complaints about cyber frauds from the city alone out of the total 360 calls in the month. The rest 29 complaints were received from various parts of the state.
Out of 331 complaints from Bhubaneswar, 192 were related to UPI frauds, 102 to credit card and debit card frauds and 37 to other cases of cyber crime.
During the month, the cyber criminals duped the people of Rs 1,31,25,030 while Rs 9,47,550 could be recovered by the police. The police also managed to prevent the cyber criminals from taking Rs 3,17,879 from the people.
The police have blocked 44 mobile numbers through the National Cyber Safe Portal during the month.
Around 90% of the frauds were committed through UPIs and the fraudsters targeted the people over phone. The UPD has asked the people to use their smartphones carefully and not to see any suspicious link.
