Over 19,000 Migrant Odia Labourers To Arrive In Khurda, Post Lockdown 2.0

Khurda: With five days remaining for the return of more than 19,000 migrant Odia workers to Khurda district after the lifting of Lockdown 2.0 on May 3, the district administration is gearing up to keep them in government quarantine centres.

A high-level review meeting, presided over by the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), Central Division, Anil Kumar Samal, took place at the collector’s office here on Wednesday.

The RDC directed officials to complete all arrangements in the temporary medical camps and government quarantine centres in rural and urban areas with proper utilisation of the financial assistance provided by the state government.

District collector Sitanshu Kumar Rout, who was present at the meeting, directed the executive engineers, Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS), to ensure 2000 toilets and drinking water supply for 20,000 migrant workers. He also directed the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) to set up health camps and form mobile medical teams for health check-up in each block.

A total of 210 temporary medical camps have been set up in the panchayats, municipalities and Notified Area Councils (NACs) of which 201 camps are in the panchayats and nine in the urban local bodies (ULBs).

Twelve district-level quarantine centres have been set up in Bhubaneswar block and five quarantine centres in Jatni block, as well as two destitute camps.

The collector informed that out of 19,192 migrant Odia workers who have registered in the government portal so far, 12,296 are labourers.
