Over 3,000 Sensitive Booths Identified For 2nd Phase Panchayat Polls In Odisha Tomorrow; Other Details Here

Bhubaneswar: More than 3,000 booths have been identified as sensitive for the second phase election to the three-tier panchayati raj institutions (PRIs) in the state scheduled for Friday.

According to sources in State Election Commission (SEC), the election will be conducted in 20,436 booths across the state. Of the total booths, 3,065 booths have been identified as sensitive.

Considering the violent incidents in the first phase polling on Wednesday, deployment of police forces has been strengthened this time. As many as 240 platoons of police will be deployed to maintain law and order and ensure free and fair elections.

Similarly, 1,753 patrolling parties will kept on alert to take actions in case of any untoward incident.

The elections will be held in 1,514 panchayats under 68 blocks of all 30 districts in the state. Total 62,10,938 voters are eligible to exercise franchise in the second phase of polling, the sources said.

This time, 747 candidates have filed nominations to try their luck for 186 zilla parishad member posts.
