Baripada: More than 50 people, including students and their guardians, fell ill after having prasad during Ganesh Puja celebrations at a school in Bangiriposi area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
As per sources, the incident was reported from Rayan village under Bhuasuni panchayat of Bangriposi block in the district. Most of the affected persons were admitted to hospital on Sunday for treatment.
Locals said Ganesh Puja was celebrated with traditional fervour and enthusiasm at the village school on Saturday and prasad was offered to Lord Ganesh. After the puja rituals, students, their guardians, teachers and school staff had prasad in the afternoon.
However, many of them complained of vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach ache and nausea late in the night.
The affected people were admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Bangiriposi for treatment and their condition was stated to be stable.
After getting information, a medical team from the district headquarters hospital (DHH) rushed to the village to monitor the situation. The officials have started a probe into the incident.
