Cuttack: In a crackdown on ganja smuggling, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police on Monday seized more than 700 kg dry cannabis and arrested four notorious drug peddlers in two separate operations.
Acting on a tip-off about transportation of ganja, a team of Jagatpur Police Station intercepted a vehicle near a petrol pump in the area. Search of the vehicle led to the recovery of over 360 kg of ganja and more than Rs one lakh, according to Twin City Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi.
The police team nabbed two ganja dealers identified as Panchanan Bisoi and Amit Mahakud, who were allegedly transporting the contraband in an illegal manner.
Based on the information extracted from the duo, the police intercepted anotehr car proceeding towards Dhenkanal and arrested two other dealers, identified as Ganeswar Das and Damo Kanhar. Over 351 kgs of ganja and Rs 48,000 cash were recovered from their possession.
The seizure of more 700 kgs of ganja is one the highest seizures made so far in the area.
