Bhubaneswar: A day after mercury soared past 40°C at four places in Odisha, overcast sky under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over Chhattisgarh and a western disturbance brought the temperature down at several places, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, on Sunday morning.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued thunderstorm with lightning and light to moderate rain warning for 12 districts for Odisha, including Bhubaneswar, till 1 pm. The districts that are likely to be affected are Balangir, Kandhamal, Boudh, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Cuttack and Puri.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places.
According to the weather agency, hot and humid weather conditions is likely to prevail across the state during the next 4-5 days. “Due to prevailing dry conditions over major parts the state and high solar insolation, maximum temperature is likely to remain between 38°C and 40°C at many places in interior parts and between 36°C and 38°C in coastal districts of Odisha during next 4 to 5 days,” it had said.
The relative humidity is expected to remain in the range of 50% to 70% in coastal Odisha.
Light to moderate rain thundershower may also occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Jajpur, and Bhadrak during the next 24 hours, it added.
On Saturday, Malkangiri registered the highest temperature at 41°C followed by Boudh and Titlagarh at 40.5°C and Balangir at 40.2°C. Bhubaneswar and Cuttack had recorded 37°C and 37.6°C, respectively.
