New Delhi: The Central government has already extended the deadline for linking PAN card with Aadhar number for another year, till March 31, 2023.
However, taxpayers who haven’t yet done the PAN-Aadhar linking are having to cough up penalties from April 1 this year.
Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued a circular stating that taxpayers who link PAN with Aadhar by June 30, will have to pay a late fee of Rs 500. But those who it on or after July 1, will have to cough up Rs 1,000.
“Link PAN Aadhaar Started. A fee of ₹500 payable if linked up to 30/06/22, else fee payable is ₹1,000. Fees to be paid by Challan No ITNS 280 with Major head 0021 (Income Tax Other than Companies) & Minor head 500 (Fee). Try to link after 4-5 working days from date of payment,” Taxation Updates tweeted on Wednesday.
Follow these steps to complete the PAN-Aadhaar linking:
* Go to Income Tax department’s e-filing portal
* Click on Link Aadhaar section on the left
* Fill in PAN number, Aadhaar number and name
* Fill in the CAPTCHA
* Click the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option and your PAN Aadhaar Linking will be completed
* Income Tax department will validate your name, date of birth and gender against Aadhaar details after which linking will be done.
