Panchayat Elections: 98 Accused Arrested In Poll Related Violence In Odisha’s Jajpur

Jajpur: As many as 98 persons have been arrested in connection with poll related violence during panchayat elections in the district so far.

Revealing this to media persons, here on Tuesday, district SP Rahul PR said 69 persons accused in various cases on election related violence in the first three phases of polling on Tuesday.

As many as 13 persons were arrested in Sujanpur and Erbanka panchayats by Sadar Police. Following are the details of the arrests made on the day:

  • 12 in Bachhala panchayat of Binjharpur block by Binjharpur Police
  • 4 in Jari area by Binjharpur Police
  • 11 in Dasarathpur block by Mangalpur police
  • 7 in Balichandrapur and Nalipur panchayats by Balichandrapur police
  • 7 in Akarapada panchayat by Jajpur police
  • 8 in Goleipur panchayat by Panikoili police
  • 7 in Deoda and Arabala panchayats by Dharmasala police

The police have arrested one more person in connection with attack on a journalist in Bachhal village under Binjharpur police limits. With this, total 12 persons including 6 women have been arrested.

Further raids in different places and interrogation of the arrested persons were going on, the SP said.
