You wouldn’t have heard of a more novel way to celebrate the birth of a baby, that too a girl child.
Anchal Gupta, a pani puri seller in Bhopal, was shocked by the reactions of some people after they came to know that his wife had delivered a daughter.
He decided to treat his customers and distributed snacks worth Rs 50,000 free of cost. The 28-year-old Gupta wanted to drive home the point that there should be no discrimination between a girl and a boy.
According to a report in The Times of India, Gupta set up three pani puri stalls after spreading the message that he would be distributing pani puris free of cost from 1 pm to 6 pm.
It spread like wildfire and hundreds of people turned up at his stalls to savour the spicy snacks.
Gupta may be a small vendor with limited income, but his gesture came in for a lot of praise.
He said on hearing about the birth of his daughter, some people pulled a face and cautioned me that I would have to face financial burden and what not.
“I didn’t like it and wanted to send a message as a father I am proud that I have a daughter… I wanted to prove that every parent should feel proud that they are lucky to have a girl child,” he told ToI.
