Dhenkanal: A sword-wielding man allegedly threatened the staff of a branch of Odisha Gramya Bank (OGB) in Dhenkanal district, sparking off tension in the office for some time on Monday.
According to sources, the man went to the OGB branch at Muktaposi under Kamakhyanagar block in the district some time after it was opened in the morning.
The bank employees were busy with transactions as it was crowded with a lot of customers in the first half of the working hours. At this time, the man, who has not yet been identified, came to the bank by dodging the security guard.
He waved a sword in the air and started hurling abuses at the bank employees. Apparently under the influence of drugs, he wobbled around the bank while holding the sharp weapon in unsteady hands.
Meanwhile, the security guard tried to catch hold of the man and snatch the sword from his hand. But the man put up a strong resistance and attacked him. In the scuffle, the security guard sustained injuries in his hands.
On being informed by the bank staff about the man, a police team arrived at the place. But by that time, the man had managed to escape.
The police have registered a case and started investigation. While the bank staff said they did not recognise the man, the police were trying to ascertain his identity from the footage of CCTVs in the area, the sources said.
