Cuttack/Balangir: A four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) left for Patnagarh in Odisha’s Balangir district on Saturday to probe the sensational parcel gift box blast case.
A bridegroom and his grandmother were killed, while the bride sustained serious bun injuries in the explosion which took place at Bholanathpada of Bramhapura village on February 23.
Sources said the four-member SIT, led by Additional SP Anil Kumar Das, would visit the house of the deceased bridegroom Soumya Sekhar Sahu and talk to the family members about the incident. Besides, the team will also visit Boudh and interact with the family members of the bride, Rimarani Sahu.
It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on February 22 had ordered a Crime Branch probe into the case following an appeal by Rimarani.
Talking to mediapersons at the Plastic Surgery ward of the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, she had said that a thorough probe should be conducted on the source of the parcel and the culprit traced at the earliest.
Rabindra Kumar Sahu, father of Soumya Sekhar, had been demanding a CBI probe into the case as the district police is yet to make a breakthrough in this case even after a month.
It is being said that the district police is not able to concentrate on the case as it has its hands full.
Considering the plight of the district police, it is being hoped that the Crime Branch would be able to unfold the case and track down the culprit at the earliest.
