Mayurbhanj: The parents of a nine-year-old girl, who died after drowning in a pond at Bankashola village under Kuliana police limit in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Independence Day, have set an example for all by donating her eyes.
According to sources, Tana Basuri’s daughter Shriya slipped and drowned in the pond on August 15.
Basuri decided to donate his daughter’s eyes since she died on Independence Day. They also wanted to keep their daughter alive through this step. “Nothing can bring back my daughter but her eyes will give vision to somebody and comfort us that she is still around,” he said.
On being informed, the eye bank team of LV Prasad Eye Hospital, Bhubaneswar, reached Baripada and checked both eyes of Shriya. They then collected both eyes of her, before the postmortem.
A certificate of appreciation was given to Shriya’s family, the sources added.
