New Delhi: The Paschim Odisha Chhatra Sangathan celebrated Nuakhai, the agricultural festival of Western Odisha at Gandhi Bhavan of Delhi University.
Several cultural programmes including folk dance and songs of Western Odisha were organised on the occasion. The invited guests were also treated to delicacies of the region at the function.
Several distinguished personalities, in their address to the gathering, said Nuakhai is not only a festival but an identity of Western Odisha. Rajya Sabha member Sujeet Kumar said the festival spreads brotherhood among the people.
Byomkesh Meher, a faculty member of Adda 247, said Nuakhai talks about the prosperity of a farmer. Lokesh Durga, president of Paschim Odisha Chhatra Sangathan said the programme offered a nostalgic feeling to the people of western Odisha who are staying away from their homes.
Prof Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges of Delhi University, and Prof KP Singh, Director, Gandhi Bhavan also spoke. The Odia students from across Delhi-NCR attended the function in good number.
