Kyiv: After being reluctant initially, Ukraine agreed on Sunday to hold peace talks with Russia in Belarus.
The Russian state media provided the information quoting officials in Moscow.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office said the two sides will meet at an unspecified location along the Belarusian border. No specific time for the meeting was provided.
Zelensky earlier today had said that Ukraine was willing to meet with Russia for peace talks, but not in a country that had helped Russia launch military operations four days ago. Rather, he preferred a location which was not aggressive towards his country.
The Ukrainian President then stated that he had spoken with Belarus leader Alexander Lukashenko, without giving any details.
Before Ukraine agreed for talks, Putin reportedly ordered Russian nuclear forces to be on high alert in response to ‘aggressive statements’ by NATO powers. He also accused Ukraine of wasting an opportunity for negotiations.
