While state governments, different organizations and individuals are announcing cash rewards and other incentives for India’s Tokyo Olympics medal winners, a petrol pump owner in Gujarat’s Bharuch has come up with a unique idea to celebrate Neeraj Chopra’s historic first gold medal.
Ayuub Pathan has said that people who share their name with Neeraj Chopra will be offered free petrol worth Rs 501.
“It is our two-day scheme to honour him. We are entertaining all valid ID card-holding namesakes of Chopra,” Pathan was quoted as saying by ANI.
Olympic heroes felicitated in Delhi
Neeraj and the other medal winners, along with members of the fourth-placed Indian women’s hockey team were felicitated at a grand felicitation ceremony organized by the Central government at a five-star hotel in the Capital.
“This gold medal is not only mine but also belongs to India. I didn’t eat and sleep well after winning gold medal… Competition was very tough at Olympics. After qualification, I realised this is the best opportunity of my life and I’ll not lose it,” said Neeraj, the cynosure of all eyes.
